I came across this article in the Tennessean by columnist Saritha Prabhu. In fact, I stole the her title! Well, I AM giving her credit for her well written article. Here are a few excerpts worth repeating..
"Why do accomplished women stay in their marriage with their unfaithful husbands? Indeed, why have Silda Spitzer, Elizabeth Edwards, David Vitter's wife, Ted Haggard's wife and others stayed on?" Duh, because she loves him and she is probably aware that there will always be women (or men) hot for her husband... and he is only human.
"What we've been seeing, though, is that, in general, men in power seem to have more illicit affairs than women in power. This isn't a sexist view but an empirical one. If Sen. Dianne Feinstein is chasing underage pages, I haven't read about it; if Speaker Pelosi has propositioned people in airport restrooms, there hasn't been a whiff of it. Likewise, if Sen. Olympia Snowe has a boy beau, no one has heard about it." Chances are these older ladies haven't had sex with their OWN husbands in ages, let alone any underage pages. Plus, men don't necessarily pursue OLDER ladies who no longer appear to be fertile.
"Not to condone cheating at all, but I feel that if the infidelity doesn't involve abuse of power or misuse of public money, it really is none of our business....Tellingly, in a recent poll, a majority of New Yorkers said they would now rather have the flawed Spitzer as governor than the ineffective David Paterson." Amen sister!
"While character is important, we can all agree that competence and intelligence are also what are most needed in the highest levels of power, but they, sadly, too often seem to be tied to reckless carnal appetites." Like I have always said, to the victor goes the spoils!
In the animal world, human no less than human, competition is intense. Males threaten, fight, and bluff one another in an effort to obtain access to females. The winner, the victor, the PRESIDENT... gets the FEMALES.
Females are naturally drawn to the winner. It's in our genes to procreate with the winner of the fight and it's in HIS genes to have sex with every fertile female who will have him. By condemning top public officials of having an extramarital affair, is to condone the very DRIVE and AMBITION that got him there!
